A double-sider pairing an aching, sensual R&B/slow jam sung by a vocalist who's now a veteran presence in the UK with a slice of Brit-funk whose playing brilliantly channels the likes of Shakatak, George Benson, and Azymuth. Self-released around Birmingham in the English Midlands, this extraordinarily high-quality, mysterious 7-inch has been unearthed and reissued by 〈MR BONGO〉!!
Track List

Only 200 copies of the original 7-inch were pressed, and distribution was limited to a narrow circuit of record shops in Birmingham, friends of the band, and gigs — it had reportedly never even sold on Discogs before 〈MR BONGO〉 dug it up in a record store. That said, the quality is superb, so it did reach music writers of the day; the band played live all over the country, including London's famed Ronnie Scott's, and opened for Shakatak and Weapon of Peace in Birmingham — proof that once people heard it, they rated it. The vocalist on the A-side "So Tender," uncredited on the original, turns out to be veteran UK R&B singer Jaki Graham! No wonder that smooth voice sounds so familiar. The B-side "Games (Instrumental)" (sample_2) is a killer cut driven by groovy bass, choppy rhythm guitar, and urbane sax and keys. In later interviews the band cited George Benson, Ronnie Laws, Weather Report, George Duke, Azymuth, and Chick Corea as influences — which makes perfect sense. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
