A minimalist sonic-imaginary world where the pastoral scenery of Yorkshire in northern England opens onto another realm. Kirk Barley is a gifted artist who has also worked under the names Bambooman and Church Andrews, releasing leftfield club-oriented material on labels such as Matthew Herbert's 〈Accidental〉. His new album Lux, a sequel to 2023's Marionette, arrives via 〈ODDA Recordings〉, the imprint run by Thea HD under the 〈The Leaf Label〉 umbrella.
Track List

This is his third album under his own name, following releases on 〈ThirtyThree ThirtyThree Records〉, home to work by Ryuichi Sakamoto, FUJI||||||||||TA and Akhira Sano. Built from a palette of short samples woven together with field recordings, it showcases his craft as an instrumentalist and sound designer even more strikingly than its predecessor. Drawing inspiration from the landscape, climate and geology of his native Yorkshire, the record hovers between ambient, jazz, classical and electronic, and could serve as a gateway into a fairy-tale world. Don't miss the mysterious, bewitching melodies built on non-standard scales — alive with a natural eroticism on tracks like "Vita," "Sprite" and "Descendent" — or the trippy sensation of tiny scattering light and the twisted rhythms of insects. The risograph-printed artwork by Oliver Pitt resonates beautifully with the music. (Original Japanese text by Adachi)
