A work by experimental artist Severin Black, originally from Wales, that traces the cycle of isolation and adaptation he experienced while moving from London to Berlin. Both physically and creatively, the tracks were shaped through a process in which they—along with the artist himself—were repeatedly deconstructed and reconstructed; this personal music is imbued with a hypnotic soundscape that evokes a sense of dislocation and the loss of a sense of belonging. Released in a limited edition of 150 copies on his own label, *Archaic Vaults*.

Abandoning the moniker “Nape” used up to this point, the artist has shifted from his previous improvisational recordings to a more meticulously layered, multi-track approach. He fuses the sensibilities cultivated during a long-term stay in the Pyrenees and through a new engagement with folkloric material with a renewed affinity for grime music, which was reignited in Berlin. During production, I began playing the clarinet; while its tonal presence is understated, it reflects my interest in the digital emulation of classical instruments seen in 1990s synthesizer technology. Longtime collaborator Vanessa Bedoret and Pavel Milyakov (Buttechno) each contribute one track. Music of exile—not in a political sense. The sparse arrangement is part of the mood.
