Brazilian-born, now Los Angeles-based Gabriel da Rosa. Conceived as an ode to his homeland of Brazil, this album honors his family, his surroundings, and the country's Indigenous and working-class people. Sonically, it centers on traditional Brazilian music while folding in psychedelic vocal effects, rock-leaning fuzz guitar and groovy funk techniques picked up in LA, resulting in bossa nova/samba that's a genuinely intriguing listen. Across all 11 tracks, powerful messages meet free-spirited Brazilian musical expression beautifully — from "Pê Patu Pá" (sample3), a weave of Rhodes and birdsong paying tribute to conservation efforts for the endangered sabiá, Brazil's national bird, to "Sabor Humanidade," which speaks to Gaza and the state of the world.
