〈KLAR! 80〉, a DIY cassette label from the 1980s Düsseldorf NDW scene The sole release by MENTOCOME—comprising masterminds RAINER RABOWSKI and AXEL GRÜBE—is a cult classic that symbolizes the deconstruction and leftist shift of the twilight of post-industrial music. It has finally been remastered and reissued! Viewed through the lenses of tape loops, jazz, and minimalism, it pushes the boundaries of experimental possibilities.

A place well-known to NDW collectors: West Germany’s post-industrial mecca MENTOCOME—a duo consisting of RAINER RABOWSKI, who ran 〈KLAR! 80〉, and his close collaborator AXEL GRÜBE, who was also involved in Rabowski’s other project, ROTER STERN BELGRAD—released their sole work in 1992, during the genre’s twilight years. From chorus tape loops connected with screws to minimalist electronics using a prepared piano, ethno-dark drones, and Fourth World ambient—this album pushes the boundaries of industrial experimentation with abstract sound design while tracing the frontiers of the German electronic music tradition. Originally an ultra-rare release that rarely even appeared on the market—a record sought after by collectors—it has finally been remastered and reissued for the first time, complete with a special insert. Limited to 300 copies; highly recommended. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
