Following her first vocal album in seven years, *Antigone*, which garnered significant attention for her music in the film *Evil Does Not Exist*, this is Eiko Ishibashi’s long-awaited second release of the year. *Pareidolia* is a dynamic collage of sounds and relationships that transcends the boundaries of a typical live album—even though it captures the duo’s first overseas performance. Without sharing information beforehand, they each prepared independently, attracting serendipitous events during their live performances. Flute and harmonica performances, ambient sounds, noise, electronics, and drones resonated together, creating a multi-layered patchwork of sound—including incorporating recordings from the previous night into the next day’s performance. These elements were reconstructed in the final mix, forming a seamless, dreamlike collage that combines a moment of Jim O’Rourke in Paris with another moment of Eiko Ishibashi in Dublin. Each listen reveals different images and stories, making this a captivating, mirror-like work that you’ll find yourself returning to time and again—highly recommended!
