Paying tribute to the two passions at his own origin — hip-hop and the legendary jazz drummer Elvin Jones — he takes hip-hop classics by The Notorious B.I.G., Wu-Tang Clan, Dr. Dre, A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, Digable Planets and Juvenile and flips the usual formula of hip-hop sampling jazz, instead approaching hip-hop from the jazz side, rebuilding them into ingenious and at times sublime jazz standards with a wild, adventurous sense of rhythm.
