A blend of '50s doo-wop and '70s soul, a string-drenched Chicago soul treasure — vocal group Majestic Arrows' sole album, "The Magic of the Majestic Arrows" ('73), gets its first-ever reissue on Numero Group!!

Majestic Arrows were a vocal group led by South Side Chicago songwriter and producer Arrow Brown. Originally released on the private label Bandit Records, this is the only album they left behind — a super-rare record long sought after by collectors. Conceived in the basement of Brown's Bronzeville commune-cum-headquarters, the album is said to be a byproduct of the group's years spent working around Record Row, Chicago's legendary record-business strip. A lavish backing band complete with strings, mixed vocals from Arrow Brown's 17-year-old daughter Tridia and falsetto singer Larry Brown (The Moroccos), exquisitely surreal artwork, and the subtle rough edges that only a self-released record can have — it's all here. Twelve tracks in which '50s doo-wop and '70s soul blend into a groove all their own, including "One More Time Around" (sample 1), with its lush, groovy Savannah Band-style playing and soaring vocals; "The Magic Of Your Love" (sample 2), a favorite among sweet soul fans; and "Going To Make A Time Machine" (sample 3), which likens love to a time machine and is packed with fun sound effects. Instrumental versions of "One More Time Around" and "Going To Make A Time Machine" are also included. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
