Sir Richard Bishop, deeply versed in folk traditions from around the globe, conceived this art brut album as music made by someone holed up in the backcountry who never learned a single rule of traditional music. No overdubs, no effects, no electricity. Casting a sharp eye on the post-John Fahey American Primitive lineage as "too safe," he embodies his inner hillbilly through raw, aggressive, rhythm-packed folk ragas. Each of the nine tracks is its own batch of folkloric moonshine representing an "expedition into the dark woods." A guerrilla strike. (Original Japanese text by Adachi)
