A young talent charts new territory for solo jazz piano: a 2LP capturing, in full, a one-night-only Los Angeles performance by LA-born jazz pianist Jamael Dean. "Poetry of the piano" spun from improvisation — a live recording where reverence for Thelonious Monk and Sun Ra intersects with a voice all his own. A piano document uniting originals, improvisations, and reimagined standards.
Track List

On May 4, 2024, at 2220 Arts + Archives in Los Angeles, jazz pianist Jamael Dean sat down at the grand piano. He hadn't decided what he would play that day; the improvisation began the moment his fingers touched the keys. Over the course of an hour, he unfolded a solo piano set freely weaving together original compositions, improvisations, and reinterpretations of jazz standards. "Oriki Duuru" (Yoruba for "poetry of the piano") presents that night's performance uncut.
