For the rhythm section, they brought in Dan Hastie, Sam Halterman, Dale Jennings, and Sergio Rios of the cult-favorite funk band Orgone, cutting the record over a series of sessions in a short span of time. The gorgeous three-part harmonies, the '70s/'80s discodelic sound, and the social and political messaging are all fully intact. Especially noteworthy is A3 "Disco Life" (sample1), which takes 1979's "Disco Demolition Night" in Chicago as its motif, calling out the racism and homophobia behind it and pushing back with the liberating power of disco — an absolutely killer track. The breezy soul number "Under the Sun" (sample2) was inspired by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, with the refrain "Under the sun / Under the gun" toward the end leaving a lasting impression. On their third album, they've delivered an important record that shows an unshakable commitment to protest music as dance music, in the vein of the Lijadu Sisters. Seriously cool stuff.
