Dubplate #5: For The Love Of
Mysticisms - Cat No: MYD005
- updated:2025-11-17
Reissued and compiled: the classic cuts from 〈DIGI DUB〉, the label that led the charge at the crossroads where Jamaican digital dub met British alternative culture in the squats of southeast London from the late '80s into the early '90s! Masterminded by LEE BERWICK alongside his comrades, the trio L.S. DIEZEL. Driving ATARI units and AKAI samplers, they even folded in a DIY hip-hop vibe on this collection of digi-dub oddities. Track List

A new installment in the dub plate series from 〈MYSTICISMS〉, purveyors of top-notch reissue work! Here's a record spotlighting the era when Jamaican digital dub converged with UK alternative sounds (where early electronics and punk intersected). Classic tracks from cult legendary label 〈DIGI DUB〉, right at the turning point of the movement, compiled onto 12-inch. Hardware gear like the ATARI S1000HD, AKAI S3200XL, ALESIS sequencers and ROLAND 303 was put to work. With cuts like "Skunk Funk" (sample2), an attempt to fuse digital dub with hip-hop, they updated digi-dub with a raw spirit and pioneered a sound that would lead on to proto-dubstep.
