An ambitious, one-of-a-kind spiritual/meditative Ethio-jazz electronic synthesizer work from Kibrom Birhane, the Ethiopian-born new-generation genius based in LA who is opening up fresh terrain in Ethio-jazz — built entirely with analog synths as he reflects on his own roots! A psychedelic, downer downtempo jazz oddity that also casts a strange, tripped-out spell with its exotic spiritual dubwise sonic space. Limited LP. Highly recommended.

Kibrom Birhane, also a member of the LA Afro-jazz project Ethio Cali (whose ranks include Kamasi Washington and Dexter Story), spent a month at LA's Flying Carpet Studios working the massive Studio 110 modular system, using no digital instruments whatsoever. The result is a singular piece of spiritual electronic music — a timeless, otherworldly oddity that carries traditional Ethiopian music, his own roots, into a new dimension by fusing it with Sun Ra-style cosmic sounds and alien textures through his own distinct lens. The beats and rhythms that surface here and there, along with a worldview somewhere near Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, make for blissful synthesizer psych-jazz and meditative downtempo chill-out. Please check out the track list as well. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
