A sister release to "If I Had a Pair of Wings," which came out several years before Death Is Not The End, this time "Leave Earth" is compiled with a focus on gospel-, mento- and nyabinghi-inflected R&B sounds recorded in Jamaica from the 1950s to the early 1960s — a limited mixtape release (no digital).
Somewhat of a companion piece to our If I Had a Pair of Wings compilations from a few years back, exploring a similar period in Jamaican-recorded music though this time focusing in on gospel, mento & nyabinghi-influenced R&B sounds from the 1950s & early 60s.
A limited cassette/mixtape release issued as a companion to the acclaimed series "If I Had a Pair of Wings: Jamaican Doo Wop" Vols. 1, 2 and 3, which compiled precious, superb performances of Jamaican doo wop/R&B — nostalgic, mellow yet fresh music from the 1950s and early '60s, before the birth of ska and rocksteady, strongly influenced by the US pop, ballads, doo wop/jive/R&B of the day while already displaying a distinctly Jamaican musicality and a soulful richness that would lead on to mento and ska/rocksteady.
The featured artists and track titles are all kept secret, so we can't list them, but with nyabinghi-manner R&B, bittersweet oldies mento R&B and more, it's an exquisite, satisfying listen that also works perfectly as background music. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
