A new album from JESSE HACKETT, the multi-instrumentalist/songwriter who moves freely between the experimental scene and the mainstream. The guest lineup is stellar too, with AKIRA UMEDA on electronics and FINN PETERS (ex-ACCIDENTAL) on winds. Written during a difficult turning point in his life, and drawing inspiration from a bar tucked quietly away in London's bohemian underworld, the sound is beautiful yet shot through with darkness and shadow. Classical piano and wind-instrument chamber pieces such as "Rain Soaked Choker" (sample3) stand out, but with samples and cut-ups woven in, the result is a singular soundscape that feels like slipping into a scene from a film.
