"Signals," a collaborative album between Korean experimental cellist OKKYUNG LEE and London contemporary music group EXPLORE ENSEMBLE, has arrived. Seven pieces reconstructed by layering newly studio-produced and edited elements over live performance recordings. Noise captured with ultra-close miking, the depth of multiphonic woodwinds, and a wide range of elements precisely stacked into overwhelming dynamics — an essential contemporary/electroacoustic work!
Track List

OKKYUNG LEE, who has stood out on releases for SHELTER PRESS and PORTRAITS GRM among others, unveils a collaborative work with the UK project-based group EXPLORE ENSEMBLE! Released on FLUNG, the contemporary music label founded by NICHOLAS MOROZ, an ensemble member and engineer who has also worked on MARK FELL's records. What stands out most is the "experiment in sound focused on the loud and soft, near and far, light and dark that a listener can perceive." Using a method of adding new layers in the studio on top of live recordings, it achieves a sound design that feels strikingly real to the ear — you can sense the presence of each performer, even the distance between player and instrument. Melodies heard both up close and far away; performance noise tickling right beside you. Limited to 300 copies. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
