A new release from Ben Vida—the multi-talented artist behind Chicago post-rock legends Town And Country and various other projects like Bird Show—is out now on Shelter Press. Featuring harpist and soprano vocalist Nina Dante, this release continues the tradition established by Yarn/Wire and Nina Dante’s “The Beat My Head Hit” on Shelter Press, blending free rhythmic structures with wordplay elements—spoken word, keyboards, and vibraphone. It’s a unique style that uses sounds from the left, right, and in between to depict the subtle shifts, resonance, and synchronization of the two voices, with instruments gradually joining in. Personally, I’ve been a big fan of “The Beat My Head Hit,” and this feels like it’s surpassed it—I’m really looking forward to it.
