"ACTION REACTION," the new album by Horatio Luna—a talented bassist, composer, and producer who was formerly a member of the nine-piece hip-hop/crossover group 30/70 from Melbourne, Australia—was recorded between 2022 and 2025 at two studios in Melbourne: Nick Herrera’s studio in Coburg and Drew Parsons’ studio in South Melbourne, and appears to be a work that documents his experiences in both composition and life.
Featuring himself on bass, keyboards, and synthesizers, along with three other keyboardists, synthesizer players, a guitarist, a tenor saxophonist, drums & samples, percussion, and piano. Marking a sharp departure from the dark textures of his previous album "Yes Doctor," the sound has evolved into crystal-clear synthesizers and funk-heavy tracks. Centered on jazz-based interplay, the album fully explores the space between crossover, jazz-funk, beatdown, and deep house through hip-hop sampling, beatmaking techniques, and psychedelic sessions steeped in the raw spirit of black music, fully exploring the space between crossover, jazz-funk, beatdown, and deep house.
