Mitchum Yacoub, an Egyptian-American multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ based in San Diego, California, is a master of tropical funk, afrobeat, salsa, cumbia, and soul in his own unique style! The album is released on All-Town Sound, a subsidiary of Colemine Records.

This release features a number of vocal tracks, with longtime friend and collaborator Divina, a vocalist with a bewitching voice, plus Panamanian vocalist Lourdes Iri singing the anthem of resistance on "Profecía" and the sensual, lilting cumbia "Deseo Celestial," a sensual and lilting cumbia. Once again with a strong horn section, the band has deepened the densely layered sound that was showcased on their electrifying debut, "Living High in the Brass Empire" ('23). Polyrhythmic, hedonistic, psychedelic dance tracks and lyrics that speak of anguish, love, and defiance. In the spirit of Afrobeat, which was a huge influence on Fela Kuti, the 10 tracks are a superb hybrid, blending his roots music of funk, salsa, cumbia, and soul. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)

Track List

Although it can’t be stated as any genre outright, “A Way In” lends itself to the worlds of Afrobeat, Cumbia, Salsa, Jazz, Reggaeton and Soul; a stirring of potent rhythms and enigmatic melodies that make Mitchum Yacoub’s sophomore album stand tall in the world of groove music. Across the syncopated dance tracks, ethereal soundscapes, and steady backbeats, are tales of anguish, love, uprising, and healing. Ten tracks that expose and celebrate the human spirit. Yacoub engineered, produced, and mixed the entirety of the album, ensuring the meticulously layered sound appreciated by fans of his debut “Living High in the Brass Empire”. We are reunited with Travis Klein, Bradley Nash, and Wesley Etienne, his inimitable horn section not to be missed on record or on stage. Featuring the rising voices of Divina Jasso and Lourdes Iri on half of the tracks, “A Way In” has no shortage of stand-out singles that will carry you from morning into night.
