A mysterious combination of Japanese vocal samples and eerie synths. Stripped-down, low-end-heavy, left-field tech house that makes an impression with its unique use of samples! London-based label 〈DRIFTED RECORDS〉—home to artists like LEN LEWIS and TOMMY VICARI JNR—has finally dropped a solo EP by label owner CHARLIE DK.
A2 “Sen Seya” (sample1) is particularly striking—it collages bold Japanese dialogue over a chain of intricate, choppy percussion, and the heavy, melodic bassline is great too. “The Calling” (sample 2) is also fantastic, featuring an exquisite arrangement that layers tribal-style percussion drums with indigenous-sounding samples and sweet keyboard tones. I have a feeling this one will sell out immediately.
