An exploration of obsessive rhythms using programmed and live drums. Serpente from Lisbon—who has also released works on 〈Ecstatic〉 and a split with CZN (João Pais Filipe, Leon Marks, and Valentina Magaletti)—is releasing a new album on 〈Souk Records〉, the experimental beat-focused sub-label of 〈Discrepant〉.
Track List

It’s also a side project by Ondness, who has released tracks on labels such as 〈Where To Now?〉. A mutant strain of dance music that masterfully balances a glassy, intelligent texture with a raw, exposed physicality. An illusory rhythmic approach that feels as though it could flip at any moment, undermining your footing. The “screw” sensibility is also intriguing. While evoking a percussive sensibility reminiscent of collaborations with Valentina Magaletti and others, the personal rhythmic language that emerges even from distorted Latin grooves is stimulating. A dance work that precariously bridges functionality and experimentation—one that throws in foreign elements rather than giving the audience what it wants. An adventurous release from the Lisbon underground scene, connected to the circle around *Príncipe*. (Original Japanese text by Adachi)
