It’s fantastic right from the A1 track, which samples “I Can’t Leave It Alone” (1976)—a classic, laid-back mid-tempo track by TONY WILSON, founding member and bassist of HOT CHOCOLATE. San Francisco-based edit master KING MOST—known for his daring style of pitting major hits head-on against each other—has released a welcome new 12-inch! He explores even more global grooves, including Afro and Latin sounds!
KING MOST’s new release—a mashup of SISTER NANCY and the TOM TOM CLUB that instantly became the talk of the town and was a smash hit at our store! “Tony Trinidad” (sample 1) takes the heavy, groovy bassline from “I Can’t Leave It Alone” by the legendary Trinidad and Tobago-born bassist and singer Tony Wilson—who passed away this spring—and adds a sharp edge to the beat. It also features tracks like “Cuba,” one of the Gibson Brothers’ signature songs, and “Lokognolo” by Cameroonian makossa singer BÉBÉ MANGA. While their previous works were mostly R&B and hip-hop-based, this release focuses on Afro & Latin and rare groove!
