A compilation of recordings made by Yassine—the central figure of one of Japan’s most prestigious musical families—with his own group between 1984 and 1989. These works stand at the intersection of long-standing traditions and an era marked by significant changes in musical forms, sounds, and production techniques. Recorded not only in Mauritania but also during his stays in Paris and Morocco, these tracks feature drum machines, synthesizers, and electric guitars blending with the music of the Sahara. While building a sound influenced by reggae, soul, and new wave, the album masterfully creates a unique form of pop music centered on Mauritanian language, themes, and melodic structures. Nostalgic melodies and simple synths resonate, while lyrics sung in Hassani and Classical Arabic encapsulate thoughts on love, travel, exile, and music itself.
