Paris-based composer and writer KASSEL JAEGER returns to *SHELTER PRESS*! Building on the concrete music techniques honed at the electronic music mecca “INA GRM”—where he has served as director since 2018—he further explores the musical potential inherent in raw sound materials. Through an undulating progression that spans from deafening roars to utter silence, he creates a collage of transformed sounds, blending a diverse range of natural and artificial sound materials.
Track List

STEPHAN MATHIEU, AKIRA RABELAIS, OREN AMBARCHI—FRANÇOIS BONNE, known as KASSEL JAEGER, has been active at the forefront of contemporary electronic music from an academic perspective as a music theorist, collaborating repeatedly with these and other visionaries. We’ve stocked his return release on 〈SHELTER PRESS〉! Using a wide variety of sound sources—ranging from acoustic to electronic, and including both intentionally crafted and serendipitously discovered sounds—he delicately designs these materials to give them musical form, creating compositions with dynamic, undulating developments (Side A dramatically shifts from intense roars to silence and drones), and by applying these sound elements to such structures, he imbues them with context and meaning. This ambitious work explores the relationship between sound itself and music by making full use of the concrete music techniques he honed as director of GRM. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
