Just when you think it’s a drum workout with complex rhythms, the introduction of an electric piano transforms it into crossover jazz. A bizarre masterpiece that examines Herbie Hancock from the perspective of left-field techno. It’s high-tempo, but I highly recommend playing it exactly as is! Stefan Vincent, who has made his way through prestigious labels like 〈APOLLO〉 and 〈SYMBOLISM〉, reinterprets jazz with an experimental floor sound.
Track List

The seventh release from ARTISJOK RECORDS—founded with the aim of “exploring rhythm and groove”—is fantastic! Amsterdam-based avant-garde techno/progressive genius STEFAN VINCENT, who made waves with his “Pre Melancholy EP” featuring PRIORI as the remixer. “A Dedication To Herbie” is a crossover techno track that shifts genres midway through, introducing acoustic-style drums alongside rhythmic synth loops, with sweet jazz keys cutting through from the middle section. (sample1) is a track that, as the title suggests, captures Stefan’s unique perspective on the works of Herbie Hancock. While this track alone is quite transcendent, “Drumming” (sample2)—with its explosive drum breaks—is also incredible, showcasing a jazz interpretation that only someone with his background in IDM and D&B could deliver. It’s an absolutely fantastic release. (Original Japanese text by Akie)
