MALTE SCHUMANN—who has been a key figure in the UK bass music scene’s experimental subgenre “WELL STREET” under the name LOOP LF, and has also released left-field techno as CALDERA on labels such as “NUMMER MUSIC” and “KIMOCHI”—is launching “VERSUN,” a label themed around “fictional worlds”! To kick things off, the mastermind behind the project—MALTE SCHUMANN—takes the lead as CALDERA with the opener, “Today” (sample 1), a track that features an interplay of aquatic synth textures and percussion, shifting into a 4/4 rhythm midway through to create a relaxing, swaying vibe. TRAEVOR’s “Reef” (sample 2) showcases an organic tribal dance vibe with dub-style bass and marimba. Also featured is the minimal dub track “Marimba Dub” by the eccentric genius STREETFAXX, who has also made waves on avant-garde labels like 〈TAX FREE〉 and 〈STROOM〉.
