Iris, the enigmatic Berlin collective that left a strange impression with their debut LP and 7-inch single, has rebranded as Irisplus and released a new album on *Tax Free*. It features a laid-back charm enhanced by multilingual vocals. This album showcases a European offbeat sensibility reminiscent of the South of North scene.

Psychedelic guitars and synths roll along as if aimlessly wandering, intertwined with drums and flute, all set against a backdrop of languid, laid-back songs. If this were a movie, it would evoke the sensibilities of directors like Linklater or Hartley. Featuring a diverse array of guests—including Falyakon, TRii, Employee, and Mo Chan—multilingual vocals, including Arabic and Japanese, add unpredictable nuances to the band’s unpretentious sound. Just as the band themselves describe it as “Lazy, stumbling slacker songs,” the slightly unpolished playing and laid-back vocal delivery are exquisite. This is a fascinating glimpse into the European underground of the 2020s, where indie rock and experimental spirit intersect at will. (Original Japanese text by Adachi)
