Robin Lloyd, a singer from Los Angeles, was active in the Mods scene in the 1960s and as part of a funk band on “Truth,” a sub-label of Stax, in the 1970s. This is the self-titled debut album by the band he formed, leading a group of musicians active in the Dallas local scene; this is the band’s only album. It features a total of six tracks, including “Our Love Is So True” (sample_1)—which had already garnered attention through its inclusion on a compilation—as well as the high-energy disco track “One Night Affair” (sample_2), with its killer break, and the mellow, breezy, and sweet “I Wanna Live With You” (sample_3). It’s also a plus that all the tracks are on the longer side, clocking in at over four and a half minutes each. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
