‘Que Vida É Essa’ is a certified samba-rock classic from 1973, taken from one of Wal’s sought after 7”’s. Uptempo for the dancers, with percussive grooves, chic and even some wave sounds for extra sunshine vibe.
‘Atôa Atôa’ is a samba-jazz-fusion classic by Ronald ‘Ronie’ Mesquita, featuring Burnier & Cartier. Taken from the sought after ‘Ronie & Central Do Brasil’ LP on Tapecar. Previously unreleased on 7”.

Wal Sant'ana is a Brazilian singer-songwriter who was rediscovered and drew attention around the 2010s, increasingly turning up on collectors' want lists. His discography consists of just two 7-inches released in the '70s. Featured here is "Que Vida É Essa," a samba rock number from one of those two, issued in 1973. The percussive groove and the sound of waves entering the break around the 2:05 mark are exquisite. On the flip is "Atôa Atôa," a samba jazz fusion track shot through with breezy soft rock, by Ronald Mesquita — the drummer who made his name in Sergio Mendes' group Bossa Rio — and his band Central Do Brasil (apparently Burnier & Cartier take part!). It comes from the 1975 LP "Ronie & Central Do Brasil" (1975), which was reissued by Mad About in 2019, though originals remain hard to come by.
