Since its release in 1981, this mysterious super-rare record has been in limited circulation with very little information available, so even among collectors, almost no one knows the background of this track. According to a theory by Brazilian Discogs collector “barginalvinyl1,” this record was a response to the pro-marijuana song “O Mal é o Que Sai da Boca do Homem” by MPB artist Baby Consuelo and guitarist Pepeu Gomes, and it reportedly sparked controversy with the Brazilian military dictatorship at the time. Although the song condemns marijuana use, the inclusion of the word “baseado” (joint) in the lyrics led the label’s head to shelve the release, which is likely why it became one of the label’s rarest releases. Listening to its mellow, AOR-style sound in light of this backstory adds another layer of interest. The instrumental version on the B-side is also a dreamy, breezy listen.
