Produced by George Benson, one of the rarest mid-'70s NY modern soul records, Bobby Boyd's "Bobby Boyd," gets an officially remastered LP reissue on Athens Of The North!!!

Bobby Boyd — vocalist, saxophonist, composer and arranger from Augusta, Georgia — debuted in NY in 1965, then formed the group Bobby Boyd Congress in 1970. Feeling the American funk scene had reached saturation point, he moved to Paris, France, where he set up a private studio and released singles and albums, with touring artists from the Ohio Players, Lionel Richie, the Commodores and Chaka Khan taking part. He later returned to NY to record as a member of The Lafayette Afro Rock Band, and it was then that he met George Benson and the two hit it off; Benson became his lifelong mentor, and in 1976, under Benson's production, he released the album "Bobby Boyd" on Tiger Lily (the label known for the Jackson Sisters album). Athens Of The North has been releasing unissued recordings from this period, continuing to bring his unique legacy and music to a wider audience. All 11 tracks are wonderfully addictive, with an off-kilter balance of raw earthiness and sophisticated polish. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
