Track List

Shira Small, a Harlem native attending a Quaker school in Pennsylvania, made this completely private, self-released album with the encouragement and funding of music teacher Lars Clutterham, who was captivated by her talent. At the time, copies were held only by students, faculty, and parents. One track appeared on WAYFARING STRANGERS: LADIES FROM THE CANYON, the Numero compilation released in 2006 focusing on obscure female singer-songwriters of the '70s, and collectors and diggers have been clamoring for a reissue ever since. Every song has a distinctive melodic development — take "Lights Gleam Lonely" (sample_1), with its Joni Mitchell-esque folky playing, psychedelic sonics, and songwriting that carries a melancholy and strangeness reminiscent of Minas music — so we highly recommend listening without skipping.
