A welcome repress of this masterful compilation of aquatic, imaginary soundscapes! Originally released in 2022, "Aquapelago: An Oceans Anthology" — a superb album of speculative-science exotic ambient futurism that lets the mind drift into the romance of the ocean and the world of the deep sea — has finally been repressed on vinyl LP after two years!!! A conceptually ambitious, thematically driven masterpiece that only the ever-reliable Discrepant Records could deliver. Allow us to recommend it all over again.

Featuring nine superb, powerhouse acts associated with the Discrepant label, including Sugai Ken, Andrew Pekler, The Dead Mauriacs, Mike Cooper, Francesco Cavaliere & Tomoko Sauvage, and Sculpture.
It opens on a mysterious, science-tinged note with Sugai Ken's "Boundary" (sample 1), whose text about the legendary humanoid whale "Ningen" is recited in both English and Japanese. Then comes Andrew Pekler's A2 "Shima No Yume" (sample 2), which weaves underwater and island field recordings into an electronic soundscape that sounds as if heard through the ears of someone swimming beneath the surface; A3 "Différents Aspects D'un Aquapel Eecomposé (edit)" (sample 3) by The Dead Mauriacs, masters of exotic, imaginary collage; and Mike Cooper's B1 "Lamma Island," in which waves breaking against the rocks melt together with daydreaming psychedelic, dreamy guitar for a lustrous, nostalgic tropical reverie. A dreamlike world of aquatic, imaginary tropical ambient exotic futurism unfolds with elegance throughout. Mastered by Rashad Becker. A wonderful gem. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
