This collaborative compilation between COMPOST RECORDS and Fred und Luna also serves as a record of research into how the musical elements of 1970s〜1980s German krautrock, experimental electronic music, and the hypnotic, repetitive minimalism of German electronica by the likes of Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!, Harmonia and Cluster have influenced younger generations of artists in Germany and around the world, and how modern kraut has grown, evolved and deepened within today's music scene as a new form of dance/floor music.
Rainer Buchmuller, aka Fred und Luna, passed away in January 2024 after a long illness, deeply missed. A few days before he died, Rainer Buchmuller sent over the tracklist for Vol. 3 (along with ideas already sketched out for Vol. 4) with the request that it be released posthumously, and Vol. 3 was compiled on that basis. Following the great success of the first and second volumes, Vol. 3 keeps to the established style while, in keeping with one of the series' guiding principles, broadening the musical spectrum around the keyword "kraut," carefully collecting 14 modern kraut, electronic, electronica, nu-disco, cosmic and psychedelic tracks (three of them exclusive, previously unreleased) across two LPs.
