From NUMERO — supremely cute and delightfully warped early-'00s pop! X-Cetra, a group of four preteen girls from California, and their hard-to-find self-released CDR album "Stardust" ('00) gets its first-ever vinyl pressing!! Includes 3 bonus tracks not on the original!

Robin O'Brien, a musician and the mother of one of the members, put her arranging and producing experience to work, recording the girls' one-of-a-kind singing and lyrics and laying them over pre-prepared tracks — which explains the mysteriously high quality here. The tracks, charming in their home-recorded sound and collage-like sampling, were built by Berlin musician Künstler Treu, a friend of the mother. Over dusty, lo-fi trip-hop, electronica and Euro-funk backdrops — druggy, grown-up stuff — the girls sing, sometimes a little wistful, sometimes bursting with energy, and it's so endearing you may find yourself feeling grateful. One for kids-soul fans, of course, but post-punk heads should hear it too. Added here are "Promises," "The Laarge Daark Aardvark Song" and "Fly Into Your Arms," none of which appear on the near-mythical CDR. A masterpiece that deserves more than to be filed away under "Y2K." Very highly recommended! (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
