An 80s Japanese Balearic urban brown-eyed-soul fusionic disco & boogie oddball gem. In the mid-'80s, Momoko Kikuchi — who blazed through the golden age of idols — made a dramatic change of direction. Backed by a crack team of players led by Yoshikazu Matsuura, who honed his chops in the miraculous fusion outfit PRISM, plus two seriously talented Black singers, La Mu was born. After a handful of singles, their sole album arrived in 1988 — now reissued as a strictly limited LP with obi and PINK VINYL!!!

Rock-solid, smart 80s brown-eyed soul/fusion, disco & boogie and soul songwriting and arrangements, topped with the subtly drifting, floating kayo vocals of Momoko Kikuchi rippling and grooving — a wonderfully exquisite depth of flavor that gives this hidden gem a one-of-a-kind presence.
Even among the works being reappraised at home and abroad in recent years as 80s Japanese boogie, this ranks at the very top for both quality and rarity. Every track is superb, but start with A1 "Rainy Night Lady," A3 "Natsu to Aki no Good-Luck" (sample2), and the Hiroshi Shinkawa-arranged midnight urban boogie B2 "Tokyo Yabanjin" (sample3). Be sure to check the tracklist too. Ten tracks in all, including the quintessentially 80s digital funk of A5 "Shonen wa Tenshi o Korosu."
