Volition Records was established in Sydney in 1984 by Andrew Penhallow, who also ran the Oceania branch of the prestigious Factory Records. Since then, the label has continued to pioneer and support dance music from the region, and was active until the late 1990s. Sisters Underground's anthem "In the Neighbourhood," which made NZ rap and R&B widely known, was followed by a hip house dub A1 (sample 1) by Robert Racic, producer of the late Volition Sound. 1(sample1). The ritualistic industrial tunes of synth-pop unit Boxcar are reworked by Miami freestyle artisan Tony Garcia for a lilting electro A2; Sexing The Cherry's bleepy B1 "This Is A Dream" (sample2), all from Australia; and the "B2" (sample3), a hip house dub by the late Volition sound producer Robert Racic, is the first ARIA Charts compilation. B2 (sample 3) is Sydney trio Single Gun Theory's ambient-pop "Fall" from Stuart Crichton and Apollo 440's Norm Norman Burns, while B2 (sample 4) is the first Australian release to reach #1 on the ARIA charts. and Apollo 440's Norman Fisher-Jones transform the ambient pop of Sydney trio Single Gun Theory into euphoric gore trance.
