Tender / Wading finds Matthew Sage, aka M. Sage, in the foothills and pastures of Colorado, writing, recording, and returning to a patch of his homeland and identity, one act of sympathetic care informing the next. Constructed primarily on piano and clarinet, and then embellished with guitar, modular synthesizer, percussion, and field recordings captured around the perimeter of his home, the album is a sweeping, serene vision of vitality, radical softness, and the reassuring sense of coming home, even if home has changed.

M. Sage’s previous album, *Paradise Crick*, was a wonderful, fantasy-like work that blended the natural and artificial worlds. In this new album, centered around the piano and clarinet and incorporating instruments such as strings and percussion, he expresses the landscapes of his hometown of Colorado, the passage of time, and gentle memories. The sounds of birds chirping, a river babbling, and plants rustling, combined with the gentle playing of acoustic instruments and electronic sounds that evoke vague yet beautiful fragments of memory. This work was composed and recorded over time in the rolling hills and pastures of his hometown, as he confronted a piece of his own identity. Currently, only three tracks have been released, but they are wonderful. (Original Japanese text by AYAM)
