An album created by Carol Maia of Rio de Janeiro and Jeremy Gustin of Brooklyn, who exchanged tracks across thousands of miles. A new release from the label 〈Hive Mind〉, a rising star with a superb catalog ranging from rare finds to current releases. A beautiful variation on stateless modern pop, featuring a dreamy blend of American and Brazilian musical influences.

A remote collaboration between Jeremy Gustin—a unique percussionist who has released works on labels such as Luaka Bop and Western Vinyl as a member of Delicate Steve and has toured and recorded with artists including David Byrne, Iggy Pop, and Norah Jones—and Carol Maia, a singer and member of Rio’s new generation of musicians. From Rio’s music scene: Frederico Heliodoro, Paulo Emmery, and Ricardo Dias Gomes. Will Graefe and Ryan Dugre from Brooklyn also participate. Inspired by the poetry collection of contemporary Brazilian poet Marcelo Ariel, this project presents a poetic worldview that contemplates the fluidity of water and light, existence and time. Blending minimalist soundscapes, a sense of floating in the vocals, and elements of jazz and Brazilian music, and a subtle experimental edge—giving rise to a new form of pop music that transcends genres and eras, creating a unique, otherworldly sound.
