The highly anticipated latest release from Tokyo-based producer and musical genius Oyubi—who is making waves on the global scene—has been released on 85ACID, an up-and-coming Kyoto-based label headed by producer and DJ Naco! This marks the label’s second physical vinyl release. A 12-inch masterpiece of introspective, dark bass music—a blend of minimal footwork and dope techno—has been born, taking the 160 BPM tempo to even greater depths.
Track B1, “Taiko2” (sample 1), is intensely cool—a hypnotic, shamanic, and bizarre festival track solidly woven from relentless high-speed drums and percussion, and a composition pared down to only the most minimal, bare-bones elements, reminiscent of a person’s breath. Track B2, “Wop Wop” (sample 2), which reflects influences from Baile Funk and Dembow, track A2, “Da Groove,” and track A1, “Erekiteru” (sample 3), which incorporates dub elements, are also powerful. Rooted in juke and footwork and centered around a BPM of 160, this release features four tracks that are ready for the dance floor, stoically blending musical elements such as dub, techno, bass, baile funk, and dembow.
