This is a new era of UK techno that builds on the legacy of the so-called “purple bleep” while evolving it for the modern age. “Eric is Dead” (sample 1) is a peak-time track that maintains a low-center-of-gravity groove by layering trance-like vocal samples over hypnotic acid chains, while building momentum through dynamic synthesizer movements. “Minesweeper,” which pairs a sine-wave beep—evoking classic BLEEP—with a unison bassline, strikes an exquisite balance where its punchy, bouncy rhythm fits perfectly within the context of modern techno.
