A mirage-like dub track infused with elements of exotica, DIY pop, post-punk, and New Age. A drifting album beloved for its twisted sense of pop. Static Cleaner’s 2023 album Lost Reward, which marked the final release from London’s experimental record shop and label Low Company, has been reissued by Purely Physical Teeny Tapes, a label focused on the underground scene around Melbourne.

One of the many aliases of Tarquin Manek, a key figure in the Australian underground scene who has collaborated with artists such as Samuel Karmel of CS + Kreme on projects like F Ingers, and released works on renowned labels including Blackest Ever Black, Berceuse Heroique, and A Colourful Storm. Although released in 2023, the album features tracks produced between 2013 and 2020. This is a dub-pop work that offers an intoxicating sensation—as if water were trickling through your ears—and is a sure bet for anyone drawn to lo-fi, home-recorded soundscapes. Centered around a dub-infused soundscape, it layers drowsy rhythms and sounds reminiscent of being swept by a sea breeze, unfolding an otherworldly sound that could be described as “seasick cyberpunk” or “mutant dancehall.” Please take a look at the tracklist as well.
