Produced across two locations—Texas and Australia—the psychedelic electronica/downtempo album “In Lieu” is here, reflecting both its geographical influences and the artist’s inner transformation! It makes full use of the artist’s signature tricky sampling and dub processing. Highlights include the downtempo track “Pink Dirt,” featuring drumwork reminiscent of late-1980s new wave drenched in dub; “Some Of,” a breakbeat track with jazz elements woven in like samples; and “Arque,” which incorporates Latin rhythms. He skillfully combines samples layered with fragmentation and abstraction, ambient design with a unique sense of floating, and massive basslines that strongly reflect the roots of bass music. This album embodies the concept he himself advocates: “Downtempo Sampledelia”
