The album showcases Chinese electronic music artists working across a wide range of genres: Shanghai-based sound artist Goooooose contributes "龍宮" (sample_2), a piece built around sustained sampling of the traditional Chinese percussion instrument the gong; 33EMYBW, whose profile continues to rise via releases on the Shanghai/UK-based experimental/bass music label 〈SVBKVLT〉, offers "南山其音" (sample_1); howie lee, a favorite here at the shop, appears on sample_3; and otay:onii, an experimental musician who weaves together English, the Zhejiang Haining dialect and Mandarin and has even opened for alternative metal bands. Taking inspiration from the Chinese idiom "源头活水"—originally meaning "the more you read, the clearer reason becomes," and today used to refer to the driving force or wellspring behind the development of things—the record freshly compiles expressions that, like water, are forever evolving and developing, drawing on the suggestions, debates and practices of "continuity" and "fluidity" that characterize the meeting of Eastern and Western musical cultures.
