A tribute that shows respect at every level, from the artwork right down to the concept, to the popular French compilation series curated by UNCLE O, the Parisian maverick also known as a record collector and digger. Last time it was Vol.4, this time Vol.12 — the intent behind that numbering is intriguing in itself. Ghostface Killah, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Mac Miller... these are the striking phrases sampled on countless classic tracks. Leading things off is The Professionals' "Theme From The Godfather," a Caribbean band's take on the Godfather theme familiar from Raekwon and Mos Def samples — tracking down each of these originals one by one is a near-impossible task, so it's hugely welcome that gems like Greenflow's "I Got'cha," hard to find even as a NUMERO 7-inch reissue, are included here.
