A love letter of a record, reflecting folk, chanson, psych, the new wave and progressive music born in France in the 1960s〜70s, and the great film composers of that era. London-based bassist, producer and magazine editor Paul Osborne, aka PROJECT GEMINI, teams up with singer/songwriter Wendy Martinez of French psychedelic girl band Gloria for an EP, out on 〈MR BONGO〉.
Track List

The record draws inspiration from French film composers such as François de Roubaix, Francis Lai and Michel Colombier, as well as from female artists like chanson singer Léonie and prog artist Laurence Vanay. The beautiful, bewitching, faintly languid world of French cinema from that period is rendered through a jazz-funk and progressive rock approach, making for a truly unique listen. Paul Osborne's playing as a bassist is also essential listening.
Six tracks in all, including "Je n'ai plus peur" (sample_1), radiating a strange, groovy energy with a thick boom-bap rhythm section, French-language female vocals and, if you listen closely in the latter half, G-funk-style synth phrases; "Crawler" (sample_2), with lustrous layers of humming floating over a funky bassline; and "Ce qui est intact" (sample_3), cinematic in its ethereal spoken word, melancholic vibraphone and wistful mood.
