In February 2024, CM von Hauswolf and Chandra Shukla met up in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and traveled through northern Thailand, where they encountered hill tribes, countless Buddhist temples and stupas, the Mekong River, and vast mountains and forests, where they spent nine days collecting sounds and conducting other activities. Recordings were made at the “31st Century Museum of Contemporary Spirit,” Wat Umon, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Roi Klo Boxing Stadium, Wat Chedi Luang, Mae Wang/Mae Win, Wat Pa Rat, Wat Phra That Doi Kam, Wat Rong Khun (Chiang Rai), Ron Sua Ten Temple (Chiang Rai), the House of Opium Museum (Chiang Saen), the Mekong River in the Golden Triangle (Chiang Saen), and the One Budget Hotel (Chiang Saen)—all of which have been processed and edited to create this audio documentary/ electronic sound piece, completed using numerous natural field recordings collected from locations such as Platat Doi Kam, Wat Rong Khun (Chiang Rai),Ron Sua Ten Temple (Chiang Rai), the House of Opium Museum (Chiang Saen),the Mekong River in the Golden Triangle (Chiang Saen), and the One Budget Hotel (Chiang Saen). True to the prestigious TOUCH label, this compelling masterpiece of field recording evokes a sense of shamanic belief, the supernatural powers of gods and spirits, mystery, and ambient comfort. It weaves a tapestry of sound, spinning out meditative tones.
