London-based multidisciplinary arts collective “life is beautiful” has released a major compilation to celebrate its third anniversary! The album features 39 tracks by the core crew and numerous collaborators. Spanning a wide range of genres—from folk to avant-jazz, electronics, chamber music, and hip-hop—the collection preserves the delicate energy of improvisation in every recording. This 3x12-inch set embodies the improvisation and experiential focus that the collective has always prioritized, building on the legacy of its event series. Led by ALOISIUS and consisting of seven core members—including NWAKKE, ABI ASISA, JASPER MAURICE, THE NARRATOR, BIANCA SCOUT, and ISAIAH HULL—the independent art platform “life is beautiful records” has released its first compilation album! From JAMES MASSIAH, who performs Sun Ra’s From JAMES MASSIAH—who performs Sun Ra’s “When There Is No Sun” on piano accompanied by spoken word—to an improvised jazz ensemble featuring BEN VINCE and KENICHI IWASA, the tracks span a vast range of genres and diverse expressive approaches, yet all share an intimate closeness and a sense of improvisation. Some recordings are preserved with a faint, ephemeral soundscape, conveying the intention to capture the raw atmosphere as if the listener were actually present at the live performance. It is also interesting that, unusually for this type of compilation, no definitive concept or statement was established; instead, the focus is purely on the exchange of raw, high-purity music and sensory experiences.
