Recorded around 1985 in Chicago, Illinois, and originally released in extremely limited quantities as a private press, High Rise’s “My Baby’s Gone”—an ultra-rare, cult-favorite indie soul, disco, and boogie gem brimming with a dreamy, ethereal vibe—has been reissued on vinyl LP by Athens Of The North!!!
Track List

The first half features mellow soul tracks brimming with a sense of transparency and lightness: A1 “I Know Yo’ Game” (sample 1), the deliciously sweet gem A2 “You Made Me A Fool,” and A3—a lengthy progressive ballad lasting 9 minutes and 26 seconds, featuring magical synth work. “My Baby’s Gone” is also fantastic, but the electro-disco and soul-boogie hidden gems—B2 “Let Me See Where You’re Coming From” (sample 1) and B3 “Shake Your Thang”—are built on an imperfect yet exquisitely balanced foundation, creating a truly incredible world of their own. Their cosmic vibe brings a smile to my face.
And then there are the two ultra-rare, nearly impossible-to-find 7-inch singles—each featuring two tracks—released in Chicago by The Elusions, the band that member Harry Malone once belonged to: A4 “Very Special Girl” (sample 3) and B1 “Stolen Love.” These are simply great songs—absolutely fantastic. Seven tracks in total. (Original Japanese text by COMPUMA)
