Miche, who served as music programmer at London's music lover's haven Spiritland and works as a UK-based music critic, follows up quickly with a second volume of a monster compilation that feels like the culmination of all her skill, knowledge, and time. This time the styles are neatly divided by disc, with sides A and B collecting mostly '80s modern soul and boogie. Highlights include ALICE COHEN AND FUN CITY's "Save The Best 'Til Last," an Aquarian Dream-esque mellow groove that only ever appeared on a 1979 compilation, and BILLY BOOMER's "I Like What She's Doing" (sample_1), a mid-tempo dancer built on breezy Casiopea-style guitar riffs and a swelling, groovy bassline — this disc alone is top-shelf stuff. Sides C and D are just as fascinating, spotlighting soul from Brazil, Chile, and beyond rather than sticking to the US: there's Banda 22's "A Luz Que Brilha Meu Viver" (sample_3) from 1983, a rare cut you'd be hard-pressed to even find online, the mysterious Ze Da Lata 7-inch "Misterio Brilhante," and THE FAMILY TREE's uplifting gospel-soul cover of Stevie Wonder's "As."
